A GUIDE TO HELP YOU PLAN YOUR

ENGAGEMENT SESSION

CONGRATULATIONS!

Everything You Need To Know

Your engagement session is more than a box to check before the wedding. It’s a pause in the middle of it all — a chance to be present, together, without a timeline pressing in.

Whether you’re drawn to refined golden-hour portraits in a striking setting or something quieter that reflects how you naturally move as a couple, this experience is designed to feel effortless and true to you.

Inside this guide, you’ll find thoughtful direction on what to wear, when to schedule, how to choose a location, and how to prepare so the session flows with ease. My role is to bring structure and clarity. Yours is to show up, be yourselves, and let the connection lead.

  • 01. The Experience

Your engagement session is designed to feel relaxed, natural, and distinctly yours. We’ll spend approximately X minutes/hours capturing a balance of candid movement and refined, guided portraits. You won’t be left guessing what to do — I’ll direct you clearly and confidently so you feel at ease and look your best.

Afterward, you’ll receive a carefully edited gallery of images that feel timeless, effortless, and true to your connection.

  • 02. Location

The setting shapes the tone. Whether it’s an architectural city backdrop, an open landscape at sunset, or an intimate in-home session, your location should reflect who you are.

If there’s a place that holds meaning — where you met, where you got engaged — that’s always a strong choice. If not, I’ll recommend locations with beautiful light and clean visual lines so the focus stays on you.

  • 03. Timing & Light

Light is everything. Whenever possible, I recommend scheduling during golden hour — just after sunrise or before sunset — when the light is soft, dimensional, and incredibly flattering.

If that timing doesn’t work, we’ll choose the best available light and build the session around it. Indoors or in urban spaces, we’ll use natural light and shadow intentionally to create depth and mood.

  • 04. Wardrobe

What you wear sets the visual tone. Clean lines, neutral or muted tones, and timeless silhouettes photograph beautifully. Avoid loud patterns or visible logos — they distract from what matters.

Coordinate rather than match. And if you’d like variety, bring a second look. If you’re unsure, I’m happy to guide you toward colors and textures that complement your location and elevate the overall result.

  • 05. Ring Details

Your ring deserves its moment. I always capture refined detail shots, so a quick cleaning beforehand makes a noticeable difference.

A simple soak in warm water with mild dish soap, followed by a gentle brush with a soft toothbrush, will have it camera-ready.

  • 06. Weather

Weather can shift, so we’ll select a backup date when scheduling. A few days prior, I’ll review the forecast and confirm next steps if needed.

Overcast skies are often beautiful and flattering. If conditions are extreme, we’ll reschedule. And if you’re open to it, light rain with clear umbrellas can create striking, cinematic images.

  • 07. Personal Touches

Small details can elevate the session. Champagne, florals, a favorite café stop, or an activity you genuinely enjoy together — these touches add dimension without feeling staged.

Including your pet is always welcome. Just bring someone along to assist when they’re not in frame.

  • 08. Save the Date Timing

If you plan to use these images for save the dates, timing matters. For local weddings, plan to send them 6–8 months in advance. For destination celebrations, 8–10 months is ideal.

To avoid rushing, schedule your engagement session at least two months before you need the images. That gives space for rescheduling, editing, design, and printing.

  • 09. Delivery

Your gallery will be delivered within three weeks via a private online link. You’ll receive high-resolution images for printing and web-sized versions for sharing.

If you’re working toward a specific deadline, let me know in advance so I can accommodate accordingly.

  • 10. Final Notes

Whether you feel completely comfortable in front of a camera or slightly unsure, you’re in good hands. I’ll guide you through movement and positioning so nothing feels forced.

The strongest images happen when you’re present with each other. Show up as you are — I’ll take care of the structure, the light, and the details.

Thank You!

I’m looking forward to documenting this season for you.

Your engagement session should feel natural, unrushed, and genuinely reflective of who you are together. If questions come up — whether it’s wardrobe, location direction, or final details — reach out. I’ll guide you through it.

You don’t need to overthink it. Just show up and present together. I’ll handle the rest.
